Another great Kenyan coffee, sourced by our green partners Nordic Approach, the co-op where they buy the coffee from, named the Thambana Farmers’ Cooperative Society owns two factories: Kiungu and Kathima. Thambana FCS is located in Embu county, near Embu town. The soil in the area is very fertile and the location is close to the Mount Kenya forest.

The flowering period for these coffees is February - March and the harvest runs from October to December. This means that the coffees are shipped to us in April and March. The cherries are handpicked and then pulped. The parchment is fermented overnight. The next day, they wash the coffee. This process removes excess sugars from the bean and it also enables the cooperative to grade the parchment by density. The parchment has been graded into P1, P2, P3, and P lights.

Most of the farmers collect the pulp from the factories and use it as fertiliser for their coffee trees. Besides coffee, the farmers have also been advised to diversify their crop by cultivating banana, macadamia, avocado, and mango.

Delicious and super juicy. Notes of stewed fruit, apple, red berries, rhubarb, nuts. Acidity-driven and balanced. Dutch Colony have always look forward yearly to new harvest from Kenya and with this having a myriad of flavours as described above that is palate teasing, which turns into peaches and sweet lime when cooled and well balanced, it will definitely not be the last you see us having this available again in our roastery.
